Destin Florida News Weather Fishing Top News | Tender Steak & Seafood Introduces New Selections 4 hours 9 minutes agoTender Steak & Seafood Introduces New Selections – Chef K.C. Fazel Refreshes Menu For The Season
Spring is in the air and K.C. Fazel, Executive Chef of the elegant TENDER Steak & Seafood at Luxor Hotel and Casino, has infused the restaurant’s menu with the freshest ingredients and flavors of the season to offer guests an unparalleled dining experience.
Fazel has enhanced each selection by introducing a host of new offerings, creating dishes that are made from the purest sources available. “Any recipe is only as good as the ingredients, and the most important part of my job is to find the best ingredients available,” said Fazel.
CUT
Fazel does what it takes to ensure this standard is being met, even if it takes going to Hawaii to meet the fishermen to confirm that the fish are going straight from the line to the ice then immediately delivered to the restaurant overnight. He also has gone to Alaska to visit a lamb farm to see that the animals graze freely and are naturally grass fed.
At TENDER, guests can be assured that they are enjoying a dining experience rich in quality; whether it is butter made from a dairy in Websterville, Vermont or honeycomb from Sonoma, Fazel has considered every detail. For his spring selections, the experienced chef has infused the freshest herbs and vegetables into his dishes, straight from farmers markets in Nevada and California. A few seasonal favorites include starters such as the Split Green Pea and Smoked Ham Hock Soup, made with crisp pancetta and braised Napa cabbage in addition to the Spinach and Arugula Salad comprised of organic spinach, wild arugula, feta cheese, toasted almonds and dried cranberries. Fazel also incorporated a few lighter selections to the Artisan Cheese Plate with the Grafton Village Cheddar and Pleasant Ridge Reserve Gruyere and complemented the selections with honeycomb, fresh honey dates, quince paste and cherry fig chutney, plus freshly-baked baguettes.
This spring and summer TENDER will feature Hawaiian Blue Prawns in Garden Vegetable Minestrone on black forbidden rice and Canadian Skuna Bay Salmon, pan-roasted and served on organic farro pilaf and Mediterranean succotash. To accompany the entrées, TENDER has introduced seasonal side dishes including braised Brussels sprouts stewed in an onion and garlic chicken broth and Sautéed Broccolini tossed in sweet chili sauce.
The elegant 12,000-square-foot restaurant features warm cherry wood walls and soft mood lighting for an upscale dining experience. Decorated with leather seating and antler-crusted chandeliers, the interior offers guests a luxurious ambiance combined with a classic and intimate feel. There is a main dining room, bar and lounge and two smaller private dining rooms for meetings, small parties and more, accommodating 15 to 30 guests, respectively.

Flotation devices required for stand-up paddleboards. Stand-up paddleboards are a frequently seen on local waters. With the popularity growing in recreational paddling, the amount of SUPs on the water is becoming dangerous to both boaters and SUPs. The Coast Guard is enforcing that all SUPs have a personal flotation device and a whistle where boat traffic is present. SUPs that are on the water before sunrise or after sunset must have some kind of light.
Hurricane season begins June 1st. Locals are never excited to know that hurricane season is about to begin. The predictions for 2012 are similar to that of 2011. The Colorado State University Tropical Meteorology Project predicts 10 tropical storms, of which four would become hurricanes. The reason for the less-than-active season include a cooling of the tropical Atlantic Ocean and a developing El Nino in the Pacific Ocean, both of which tend to suppress hurricane activity.

Some Of The News Covered:
Spring break has been great for 2012! From Panama City to Destin, the Emerald Coast has experienced a high number of spring breakers. Whales Tail on Old Highway 98 had thousands of spring breakers daily on the beach. Many locals have been amazed by the amount of spring breakers! Spring break is concentrated more in March this year due to Easter being early. Spring break will be over by the end of April.
Norriego Point received emergency dredging. Many boat captains were becoming concerned with how narrow the mouth of the harbor was becoming. Sand from Norriego Point shifted by 70-80 feet into the mouth of the harbor. The city of Destin had to carry-out an emergency dredging project. More than 10,000-cubic yards of sand was dredged and placed back on to Norriego Point. The dredge project cost the city $142,350.
The ALE Reef will be in place by August 2012. A new artificial reef will go into local waters this year. By August, a reef made of pre-fabircated concrete structures should be deployed 21 miles south of Destin. The reef will be about 3 miles from the reef laid around the Monica Lea tugboat in 2011. The name of the reef is the Aquatic Life Ecosystem Reef or the ALE Reef. The project is being funded by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and $3,000 from Okaloosa County.
Vinnie Mcguires is now open! Mcguires Irish Pub is known for their great food and beer. The local favorite has branched out to add a little Italian flavor. Mcguires in Destin took over neighboring Ciao Bella to open Vinnie Mcguires Pizza. The pizza comes in a small for $10 or a large for $16. There are many great toppings and sauces to choose from to create a one of a kind. The Vinnie Mcguires is open 7 days a week from 11-11.
Sea turtles may nest early this year. Unseasonably warm temperatures have the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission thinking sea turtles may start nesting early. The early nesting could be in jeopardy with spring break taking place. Beachgoers are urged to keep a distance and leave nesting turtles alone. Beachfront properties should keep lights to a minimum to avoid disturbing both nesting and hatching turtles. If sea turtles are spotted report the siting to the FFWCC at 1-888-404-FWCC or by text Tip@MyFWC.com
